The ceiling will become a storyteller of the space

Project Description

Storyteller of 401 Richmond

ADDRESS: 401 Richmond West, Toronto, ON.

SIZE: 982 sq m

The motif is a ceiling of Nomado, a fictional independent book publishing and printing company. The project profoundly addresses the site of 401Richmond and its history of tin lithography. The carved-out ceiling takes a cue from lithography and will become a storyteller of the space. This design engages and celebrates the history and creates a rehabilitation stream for the space. The ceiling pattern is designed in Rhino 3D, and CNC milled to make the shaped foam model. The model is indexed into a series of papers to explore the visual representation and enveloped by basswood frames implying window frames.

*The name Nomado merges nomad (wanderer) and mado(window in Japanese).

(This project evolved from Nomado)
